Background

The Multilateral Initiative of Malaria (MIM) was established in 1997 at an international conference on malaria held in Dakar, Senegal. The overarching mission of MIM is to strengthen and sustain through collaborative research and training, the capacity of malaria endemic countries in Africa to carry out research required to develop and improve tools for malaria control.

Every 3-4 years, the MIM together with an African-based institution or group of institutions in an African country organizes the MIM Pan-African Malaria Conference (MIM PAMC). Following the 1st MIM PAMC in Dakar, Senegal in 1997; the 2nd MIM PAMC was held in Durban, South Africa 1999; the 3rd MIM PAMC in Arusha, Tanzania 2002; the 4th MIM PAMC in Yaounde, Cameroon, 2005; the 5th MIM PAMC in Nairobi, Kenya 2009; and lately the 6th MIM PAMC in Durban South Africa 2013.

MIM conferences provide a unique platform for research scientists, clinicians, public health experts, national, regional and international health agencies from Africa and other parts of the world to meet, share information and network. Through these conference, delegates contribute to shaping the research and control policies required to control malaria and build research capacity in Africa.
