Areas of low transmission present problems for malaria diagnostics. Few patients who receive a diagnosis are positive for the disease, and patients frequently have low parasite densities which may lead to false negative malaria results. These are challenges to case finding, cost and elimination.
ACT Consortium researchers presented findings and experience of using malaria rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) in different low-transmission settings in Africa and Asia.
