ACT Consortium seeks Research Assistant to support Uganda projects

An opportunity has arisen for a Research Assistant to work within the Department of Infectious and Tropical Diseases for the ACT Consortium-funded studies in Uganda led by Dr. Sian Clarke. The post holder will be based in Rukungiri District, SW Uganda and will work as a member of an existing team that supports the scientific work and field activities of the ACT Consortium-funded project to evaluate the feasibility and impact of introducing rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) on appropriate antimalarial treatment by community medicine distributors and registered drug shops within the context of home-management of malaria in young children. The post holder will work with the principal investigators and the research team in Uganda to assist in the development and running of the trial.

The post provides the opportunity to engage in all aspects of research related to the conduct of randomized intervention trials, including the elaboration of research procedures, development of survey instruments, collection of field data, data management, statistical analysis, interpretation and reporting of research findings. The post will involve working with the district and national authorities in the planning and conduct of the trial to generate data of relevance to public health policy.

The post is suitable for candidates with a Postgraduate degree in epidemiology, public health, control of infectious diseases, or similar degree, preferably with a focus on international health.  Applicants should have experience with data collection and analysis, writing reports, and working in developing countries.

The post is funded for a period of 2 years from March 2010. Salary is from £27,182 to £31,738 per annum, plus a displacement allowance.
